Thanks to our community partners and donors, the Adopt-a-Unit fundraiser far exceeded its goal, raising over $28,000! Donations in excess of our goal have been placed in a fund to ensure the continued filling of units after each move-out.
We offer our sincerest gratitude to all donors for their support. Through these gifts, you have truly made a difference in the lives of our neighbors in greatest need.
Program Background In partnership with the Grand Forks Housing Authority and various community partners, Grand Forks Homes, Inc. launched the LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit Program, giving community members the opportunity to collaborate in providing basic apartment necessities for the individuals experiencing chronic homelessness who live at LaGrave on First. Through the LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit program, community members can make an impact with gifts as small as $.79 (Yes, 79 cents!), all the way up to $500 or more to cover one whole unit, or collaborating to cover multiple units.
LaGrave on First, owned by Grand Forks Homes, Inc., is a 42-unit permanent supporting housing/housing first facility with the focus of serving individuals who are facing chronic homelessness and disabling conditions. This property, located on 1st Ave. S., will provide services and gathering space on the first floor, with housing units on upper floors. Construction is estimated to be completed in July, with move-ins expected to begin by September 1. Thanks to housing assistance through Grand Forks Housing Authority programming, residents will only need to pay 30% of their gross monthly income toward rent.
The LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit Program provides the opportunity to serve those in greatest need in our community. This summer community members and partner organizations collaborated to set up and supply each unit with the necessity items one would need to live in an apartment. In most cases, the individuals moving into LaGrave on First will arrive with only what they can carry in a bag or backpack. The donation drive focused on household necessities like basic dinnerware, towels, bedding, personal care items, bath and kitchen supplies.
