In partnership with the Grand Forks Housing Authority and various community partners, Grand Forks Homes, Inc. is pleased to launch the LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit Program, giving community members the opportunity to collaborate in providing basic apartment necessities for the individuals experiencing chronic homelessness who will be moving into LaGrave on First later this year. Through the LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit program, community members can make an impact with gifts as small as $.79 (Yes, 79 cents!), all the way up to $500 or more to cover one whole unit, or collaborating to cover multiple units. Grand Forks Homes is currently reaching out to the local faith community, service groups, and individuals in the community to aid in filling all 42 units with these necessity items by August 1, 2018.
LaGrave on First, owned by Grand Forks Homes, Inc., is a 42-unit permanent supporting housing/housing first facility with the focus of serving individuals who are facing chronic homelessness and disabling conditions. This property, located on 1st Ave. S., will provide services and gathering space on the first floor, with housing units on upper floors. Construction is estimated to be completed in July, with move-ins expected to begin by September 1. Thanks to housing assistance through Grand Forks Housing Authority programming, residents will only need to pay 30% of their gross monthly income toward rent.
The LaGrave on First Adopt-a-Unit Program provides the opportunity to serve those in greatest need in our community. This summer community members and partner organizations will collaborate to set up and supply each unit with the necessity items one would need to live in an apartment. In most cases, the individuals moving into LaGrave on First will arrive with only what they can carry in a bag or backpack. This summer’s donation drive will focus on household necessities like basic dinnerware, towels, bedding, personal care items, bath and kitchen supplies. In an effort to ensure consistency of donated items, the donation drive has been organized through Target gift registries. Registries have been set up for a number of partner organizations, as well as a public registry for those who are not affiliated with any currently participating organizations. The public registry can be found at: tgt.gifts/LaGraveonFirst.
Additional registries have been set up through our Adopt-a-Unit partners who have committed to participating in the program: Sharon Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LoFSharon St. Mark's Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LaGraveonFirstStMarks St. Paul's Episcopal Church: tgt.gifts/LoFStPauls United Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LoFUnited University Lutheran Church: tgt.gifts/LoFUniversityLutheran
